Club's Breakfast Run among paddy fields

Our members took their families for a fun run cum holiday in Sekinchan last Sunday. The club wishes to thank the headmaster of SRJK (C) Yoke Kuan, Mr Lee, for graciously allowing us to have our breakfast in the school canteen.

Many of the runners came on Saturday and visited Ah Ma House, Paddy Gallery, Pantai Redang and Mango King.

This is not just a pretty picture, it is part of the important irrigation system in paddy planting.

Ah Ma House, which sells specialty cakes and biscuits.
These paddy fields will be ready for harvesting in about 2 weeks.

A rice farmer telling us that rice crop takes between 90 to 100 days from planting to harvest. The "Pearl" variety is not allowed to be planted in Malaysia because of pests. Harvesting is done by large rice harvesters like to one below, which was parked a short distance away.

Yummy breakfast of rice porridge, yau cha kwai, braised taukwa and soya sauce stewed eggs

The Mango King shop, where we were given samples of very nice ciku - not too sweet. We then bought a one kg bag of it for RM10.

Two breakfast runs to be held in early 2016

The club is planning the next two breakfast runs. The first run will be on 3rd January 2016 at the Sri Hartamas playground to introduce the new venue for our weekly Sunday runs as Padang Merbok is frequently used by run events. The Kuantan Area Group will host the next run on 28th February 2016 at Sungei Lembing, Pahang. Further details to follow.

Saturday Beginners Group trains together with the much larger MPIG running clinic

After a long absence because of the haze, our small group met at the Sri Hartamas playground at 7.30am - well the rest of us - Monica and Li Leen were there at 5.30am to run 10km with Jamie Pang's Gold Coast training group. It was a beautiful morning with clear skies. We were here to join the much larger MPIG training clinic. MPIG had coach KK Oon there to give some tips on core and cardio training. We had an easy 2 loops of a 3km route.

KK Oon showing how the abdominal crunch is done.

Abdominal exercise for beginners. Strong abs. are crucial for strong core muscles, which reduces strain on your back.

Leg raise for strong abdominals and hip flexors. Strong hip flexors increase walking and running stride and prevents groin injuries.

The Plank - try holding this for 30 seconds. Most would be wobbling at the end.

Ehhh, what are the Beginners Group doing, lepaking at the back?   :(

At our favourite coffee shop, Jei Mee, at Sri Hartamas with KK Oon. This place is great for curry laksa and kon lo mee!
