President’s Message, 27th Nov 2014

It has been a hectic time for us, racing against time to deliver the INOV-8 Pacesetters 3030 Run 2014 with more than 2,200 registered participants. It’s a great relief now that it is over and we have time for a post mortem.

My own reflection on this event is that we have earned some confidence as a team to deliver an event that is so long and complex – only slightly short of a full marathon. However, I am a little disappointed with the participation level of our members - we had 200 members taking part or less than 10% of the field. Add another 100 crew and we have 300 or only 28% of the members being involved in this event. What happened to the other 72%? I hope to get some answers in the months ahead and before the next AGM in April 2015.

Allianz Pacesetters 4 x 3km 2014
The above event shall be held on 14 December 2014 at Padang Merbok. This is a team event to bring together runners for some comradeship after a long 2014 season of competitive running.  As a club, we would like to give back to society by including the Kiwanis Corporate Charity Challenge category within this event. We hope to raise RM50,000 for the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation.

We like to request you to support us in one or both of our following initiatives:
  1. Support the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation by registering a team in the Kiwanis Corporate Charity Challenge and / or
  2. Sponsor a team from the Under 26 University, College & School Category
For the Kiwanis Corporate Charity Challenge, please contact  Mr Chan Kin Hou (Tel : 012-294 8826 or email kinhou@gmail.com ) There is a minimum donation of RM1,000 per team for this Charity Category.

We have 104 teams registered as at 26 November 2014 of which 14 are corporates (31 Corporates have made their donation, of which 17 have not submitted their team list). The reason for non-submission is because these donors do not have enough runners to take part. If you are keen to run for these teams, please email to Mr Chan Kin Hou.

As for the Under 26 University, College & School Category, we will be able to form teams for you to sponsor. Please contact me about this. The registration fee for the Under 26 Category is RM120 per team.

MDCC NYE Run – 31 December 2014
The club has been hired to manage the above event. It is a theme costume party style run event, in conjunction with the Year End Count Down Party at Mutiara Damansara. Do not miss this opportunity to celebrate the New Year together. Go sign up today. More than 930 have signed up at www.myraceonline.com  at as yesterday and there are only 2,000 slots.

There are more activities lined up from early next year. More details will be provided in due time.

Yours truly,

Help support Literacy and have fun in this run!

Date and venue
The project that the Taylor`s Reading Bus 2014 will be launching this year is the Charity Run which will be held on the 6TH December 2014 . The venue of the Charity Run will be at The Perdana Botanical Garden (formerly known as Lake Gardens Kuala Lumpur). Lake Gardens is our choice of venue because it’s one of the most strategic place to have a run in Kuala Lumpur while enabling us to capture the attention of the public. We aim to generate interest from teenagers, college or university students and young adults.

Our Aim
The main reason of having this charity event is to raise awareness on illiteracy as it has been increasing rapidly among underprivileged children in Malaysia throughout the years. We aim to help control of the rate of illiteracy problems that have caused a decrease in the country’s productivity. Instead of just running campaigns and collecting donations from relatives and friends, we planned to have a charity run because we hope to get the public’s attention to educate them on the importance of education.

Why Charity Run?
Based on our online and public surveys, most of those from the said target group prefer outdoor events such as a Charity Run. We would also like to make a huge impact to spread awareness about the lack of educational resources provided to children from low income families. Moreover participants will also be given a T-shirt during the run that will have the hash tag #RUN4LITERACY and gold level sponsors’ logo printed on the shirts for publicity and to remind the participants that they are contributing to a better education for the underprivileged children.

Allocation of Funds
All of the funds raised throughout this Charity Run will be donated to the Taylor’s Reading Bus. Taylor’s Reading Bus will make use of these funds to support our beneficial project in the years to come. For your information, the funds will be channelled to purchasing basic schooling necessity for the underprivileged children, such as school bags, stationaries and water bottles. Book shelves and reading materials ranging from story books to reference books will also be donated to the community centres and primary schools under our project for teaching purposes. As the saying goes “actions speaks louder than words”. Therefore we should contribute back to the society and prove that the Charity Run is all about 'WE RUN FOR LITERACY". In return, we can touch the lives of many children by providing them proper education and, we hope, a brighter future

A very good turnout of 2,100+ runners

Foreigners swept 4 out of the 8 categories.

The 30km Men Open category was won by Michail Anatasis Xenos from Greece, a project financial controller for Bombardier Inc., a Canadian multinational aerospace and ransportation company. Michail has participated in several local events since arriving in March 2013, amongst which are Energiser Night Run 2014 (winner), 2XU Half Marathon (runner-up), Mizuno Wave Run (runner-up), Sundown Half Marathon Singapore (3rd Place) and Sundown Half Marathon JB (winner). He commented that the event was well organized, the route clear and hilly, with many water stations and good number of runners. He prefers a later start as he gets to bed pretty late!

The Men Open 20km was won by Malaysian, Jasni Khairil Jamaluddin an enforcement officer with DBKL from Bagan Serai, Perak. He was also the winner in the Puma Night Run recently. A total of 2,200 runners, including 121 foreigners from 28 nations took part in 8 categories over the 3 distances - 30km, 20km and 10km.
