Allianz Pacesetters 4x3KM raises RM28,000 for Down syndrome

Kuala Lumpur, 19 November 2019 – The Allianz Pacesetters 4x3KM 2019 Relay Run raised RM28,000 for Down syndrome this year.

Since its inaugural run in 2014, Allianz Pacesetters 4x3KM has managed to raise RM250,000 for the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation through its Kiwanis Pace-It-Forward corporate category, where corporates are required to pay a minimum donation of RM1,000 per team.

This year’s run, which was held on 2 November at Padang Merbok attracted 198 teams including 28 corporate teams. Allianz Malaysia sponsored a total of 17 teams including 2 teams for the Kiwanis Pace-It-Forward category.

Allianz Malaysia Berhad Chief Executive Officer, Zakri Khir said that the Company’s involvement with the run was a great way to continuously support the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation.

“For Allianz Malaysia, it goes beyond just being title sponsors. As a corporate entity and an insurer, it is important for us to give back to society by playing a more involved role in supporting causes and foundations such as Kiwanis. This event is more than just about raising funds or awareness, it is also about engaging with the community, drawing appeal and championing the cause through a fun and healthy way,” said Zakri.

The Allianz Pacesetters 4x3KM 2019 Relay Run is a unique run which sees teams of four runners take part in a fun three-kilometre relay race. This year’s event featured five categories; Category A - Men’s Open, Category B - Women’s Open, Category C – Mixed Open, Category D – Mixed under-26 and Category E - Kiwanis Pace It Forward

2019 Peer Support Program

By Vice President Johnson Lim

Firstly, welcome new members and hello existing PAC members.

We are starting the 2019 Peer Support Program this Sunday, 7 July 2019.  The starting point will be at Petronas, Jalan Sri Hartamas 1. For new members, you may use "Waze" and key in "Petronas Sri Hartamas"

This Sunday we will start off with 2 categories:
- 10km (6.30am)
- 15km (6.00am)

The distance will increase as the week progresses for those doing the Full / Half Marathon.

Each week there will be pacers and sweepers guiding you along the way + a water station. This week however - we will do away without a water station given the short distances - please therefore bring a water bottle.

We will set out the names of your respective pacers and sweepers according to distances by Thursday evening/Friday morning each week.

We kindly request that you include your names in the list by Saturday evening, so that we can look out for you - and also estimate amount of drinks + bananas for runners.

If you are NEW, it would be good if you could indicate in the list as well (For eg: Newbie 🐢), so that our experience runners can look out for you.

Happy running and all the best for your training!

Great to run on rural estate roads at Segamat Breakfast Run

Over the weekend of 29th and 30th of June, a group of 20 plus members including friends and families drove south to Segamat for a Breakfast Run. Many stopped at Tangkak for some delicious Ngau Lam Mein before continuing to Segamat. Most stayed at the the 3 year old Ion Hotel, a respectable budget hotel.

We had a delicious dinner at Restoran Seong Hai Kee at a very reasonable price.

The next morning, we drove about 7km to a row of new shophouses, nearby a palm oil plantation. We were met by committee member Charlie, a Segamat local, and her Hash House Harrier friends, who together organised everything.

It was a cool morning with overcast skies.

We proceeded to run a short distance and entered the plantation, running an undulating 8km route on laterite estate roads.

A barn owl house. Barn owls prey on rats, which are pests, as they eat oil palm fruitlets.

For breakfast we had soto ayam, nasi lemak, peanut angku, curry puffs and kueh.

After breakfast, showering at the hotel and checking out, we went to a small durian farm and tasted many species of durian.

Many thanks again to Charlie, her mom and the Segamat Hash House Harriers for making the event such a memorable one.    :)
